Written in 1912, this popular hymn is well established as a country classic and has been covered by the likes of country artists Johnny Cash, Alan Jackson, George Jones, Chet Atkins, Brad Paisley, Loretta Lynn, Merle Haggard, Patsy Cline, Ricky Van Shelton & Elvis to name but a few, so Irish superstar Simon Casey is certainly keeping good company. Simon got his big music break on a show called You’re a Star on Irish Tv in 2003.
First Thoughts Review:
'The Old Rugged Cross' is a song that stands the test of time. The gorgeous guitar picking, the harmonies and the tone of Simon's voice, with the underlying subtle strings section brought to the listener courtesy of the Roland Organ, brings 'The Old Rugged Cross' up to date and re-invents it perfectly once again. I was quite happily singing along and forgetting that I was supposed to be writing a review.
With familiarity comes comfort and it is Simon Casey's hope, that in these uncertain times that 'The Old Rugged Cross' will bring some comfort to people.
