First Thoughts Review: 'Down By the River' by Stevie Daniels

Stevie Daniels is a country music artist from Peterborough who takes inspiration from the likes of Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Cody Jinks and Tyler Childers.

Supported by Halo Music Creative, Daniels is set to release his first single 'Down By the River' on Friday 25th September.

Combining Daniels' husky vocals and honky-tonk instrumentation, this track is definitely one for the traditional country fans. On first listen, it is easy to get swept up in the instrumentation, melody and traditional country beat - I am particularly fond of the sound of the river that start and end the track to set the scene. Daniels' has taken snippets of his influencers and added his own personal touch. As I began to turn from the music and hone in on the lyrical content, as Daniels' explains, the simple song portrays examples of alcoholism, the time they spend drinking and the health risks which all result in a lonely, unhealthy place. It is riding the whiskey river. A very solid first release for the 30 year old and no doubt fans will be eager to enjoy what he will release next!

Down by the River will be released worldwide on Friday 25th September 2020.
